Identifying Characteristics:   medium heron; dark blue (purplish) neck, blue body; blue or grey bill with blackish tip; juveniles are white and gradually change color as they mature
Similar to/Compare with:   juveniles similar to immature Snowy Egret or adult Little Egret
Range:   coastal regions through the Americas
Habitat:   varied fresh and salt water settings: ponds, lakes, swamps, etc.
